Tucked inside every Sacred Place resides a unique bench that houses a waterproof, yellow journal. This simple act of expression through journaling has empowered people to grieve, express joy, untangle their thoughts—and even correspond with one another. As part of Nature Sacred’s long-term stewardship of sites, we replenish these journals and collect entries to share and inspire. Your gift will support the yellow journal program for one year for one Sacred Place.

In every Sacred Place, the signature Nature Sacred bench is installed and nestled beneath it rests the yellow journal. The bench offers more than a place to sit—it serves as a platform for renewal. Created with up-cycled materials with a story, crafted by workers looking for a second chance and cared for by its community who seek renewal on it—every element of these benches are intended to uplift, inspire and strengthen communities. Firesouls, supported by Nature Sacred staff, care for these benches long-term. Your gift will provide a bench care kit, which includes the supplies needed to give that loving TLC benches need over time.

Each spring Sacred Places invite neighbors and visitors alike to bask in the vibrant and fragrant display of nature’s blossoms. The season draws us back outside, and our Firesouls respond by investing in new plantings and organizing community greening days. Your gift will provide a spring blooms planting grant of $1,000 to one Sacred Place.

Firesouls, what we call community leaders, steward the creation and maintenance of every Sacred Place. They possess the spark and drive to make their community a better place, through nature. They come from all walks of life—a physician, a pastor, a teacher, a business leader. And for all, serving as Firesoul has been a calling, a gift of their time and passion. That’s why we feel it’s so important to care not only for these spaces but also for them.

Your gift will support one wellness program for our Firesoul Network of over 100 Firesouls across the country.

Nature heals. Just being in nature brings benefits to physical, emotional and mental well-being. Bring guided, purposeful practice into that setting, and those benefits increase. From yoga in the garden to forest bathing and sound meditation, our Firesouls and their communities find so many ways to bring healing and mindfulness in a nature setting.

Communities are the heart of every Sacred Place—from the design to its planting and onward to its continued relevance as a gathering place and hub. These green spaces come alive through programming, including artistic and storytelling offerings. From step recitals to music concerts, from storytelling sessions with facilitators such as Narrative4 and WOW!, our Firesouls and their communities find so many ways to bring the arts and the creative to and from their neighbors.

Your gift will support an artistic or storytelling program for one Sacred Place.

The healing powers of nature and music come together in Sacred Places through community concerts. From high school choirs to acoustic guitarists and from jazz bands to quartets, Sacred Places are an ideal venue for musical gatherings of all shapes, sizes and genres.

Your gift will support a community concert for one Sacred Place.

Food deserts. Nature deserts. Sacred Places have the capacity to address access to both nature and food. No two Sacred Places are alike—that’s the magic of community-led design—however several have common elements like urban farming, edible gardens or apiaries.

Your gift will provide the opportunity for an existing Sacred Place to add an edible garden or urban farm to their site by funding the design and construction.

Planted with grasses and flowering perennials, rain gardens can be an effective and beautiful way to reduce runoff from greenspaces, particularly in urban areas. Rain gardens can help filter out pollutants to natural water sources and provide food and shelter for butterflies, song birds and other wildlife.

Your gift will provide the opportunity for an existing Sacred Place to add a rain garden or stormwater management to their site by funding the design and construction.
